Empower to us means we are providing people with opportunities and support so they can
use thier God given gifts in service to others and for helping others grow as disciples.
We offer three main types of empower opportunities.
SAINT MATTHEW SPONSORED, TEEN FOCUSED EVENTS
 |
The National Youth Gathering is an event that happens every three years. Those who attend have a chance to worship, play, serve, and study with over 20,000 other teens from all over the world. It is an event and experience like no other.
If you are registered for this event, you can find information on our meetings, our planning progress, and more on this page.

We will be spending the night outdoors with only sleeping bags and boxes - experiencing for one night what it is like to live without permanent shelter. We plan to seek pledges for our time outdoors and money raised will be given to a Twin Cities non-profit working to end homelessness.
Please note: We are awaiting approval from the city of Columbia Heights for this event. We are unsure of the date at this time.

IN HOME SMALL GROUP PROJECTS
In home small groups will be encouraged to plan service projects for members of their group to participate in. Projects can be focused in one of four areas: home, work, congregation, or community. More information about our small groups can be found here.
INVOLVEMENT IN CONGREGATIONAL & COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Here are just a few ideas of projects and programs you can volunteer to be a part of. If you have any questions or ideas, please email Jim Bargmann.
Each Wednesday evening, Saint Matthew offers an open gym time. As a volunteer for this time, you would agree to plan some organized games for the young people who attend. Volunteers sign up for one of two shifts - 4:30-6:15 pm or 6:15-8:00 pm. Contact Brenda Hugo to volunteer.
Faith Play is a Sunday morning class for 0-2 year olds and thier parents. Child care is needed for this class. They meet from 9:30-10:30 am. To volunteer, contact Brenda Hugo.
Older teens are invited to lead Sunday school workshops. To lead a workshop, volunteers must be 11th or 12th grade need to be trained. Contact Brenda Hugo to volunteer.
Children's Messages are presented at both Sunday morning worship services every week. Volunteers regularly prepare and present these messages - and teens are welcome to do so as well. Messages can be presented by individuals or small groups. Volunteers must be trained. Contact Brenda Hugo to volunteer.
Music filing is an ongoing project that Carol can always use help with. If you are looking for a simple, easy, behind the scenes project that means a lot, this might be for you. Contact Carol Blase for more information.
Another similar project would involve helping clean up and hang costumes in the Sunday school drama room. Contact Carol Blase for more information.
